Many of you know about Legoland, but few of you have probably heard of Lego House.
Lego Hoúse owned by Lego, was built in Billund, not far away from Legoland in Denmark only a few years back, in 2017. It is basically everything that you would have liked in Legoland, it is a modern center, designed to be as interactive and creative as possible for all Lego fans, specially children.
If you are now curious about it, keep reading.
Date of visit: August 2021
How to get there: Lego House is located in Billund, not far from Legoland. We arrived by car. But of course, all ways to get to Legoland in Denmark, will be valid to visit Lego House as well. It is possible to walk from Legoland to Lego House, about 20-25 minutes.
What we liked:
- The building itself is ludic and architecturally interesting, designed by architectural firm BIG. It plays with the character of basic Lego pieces and colors.
- The concept of having a Lego center which focuses on interactivity and the actual basic essence of the Lego bricks, building, creating, having fun and support the imagination.
- The advanced digitalization and technology put into place so that every kid/user keeps track of all your activities within Lego House which you can then download home.
- There are different zones by colors with different focus activities. Creating a free model, designing a car and testing its speed, program a robot, build a flower, add a fish to a digital tank, and even creating your own movie. All the while you get to save all your creations in your personal archive.
- There is a museum in the basement, that shows you the history of Lego and a spectacular collection of Lego sets, all the way from very old ones to new ones.
- It has a whole system of roof terraces interconnected and accessible from the outside for free. It is basically a giant multi level playground for the visitors and kids in the neighborhood.
- There is a restaurant and a cafe inside at the lobby level.
What we think could have been better:
- We had lunch at the cafe, because the restaurant was full booked. The food options at the cafe were poor. And the service was very slow. We had to go to the desk to inquire for our food. We waited for more than 40 minutes.
Things we wish we knew beforehand:
- That the restaurant Mini Chef gets full and it is good to make a reservation. It is very popular due to the creative way they have integrated the Lego experience within the menu, how to order and how one gets the food. Fun for the kids!
- That the terraces are accessible from the outside giant stairs. We almost missed them, have we not been curious about walking around the building. But it was well worth going up.
- That you dont need to worry about having enought time. Lego House size and activities are perfectly design so that one day will be comfortably enough to enjoy all of it.
- That it is indeed worth it. No doubts about going or not going. It is worth paying the extra ticket. We liked it way more than Legoland!
Practical information:
- Parking is available in a nearby parking garage. Parking on the street is limited to 1 hour. Not enough time of course.
- There are some housing buildings around, including some 2 or 3 neighborhood restaurants in case one wants to eat something outside Lego House. Among them a sushi/asian buffet style one.
